After Years - Ted Kooser

Today, from a distance, I saw you
walking away, and without a sound
the glittering face of a glacier
slid into the sea. An ancient oak
fell in the Cumberlands, holding only
a handful of leaves, and an old woman
scattering corn to her chickens looked up
for an instant. At the other side
of the galaxy, a star thirty-five times
the size of our own sun exploded
and vanished, leaving a small green spot
on the astronomer's retina
as he stood on the great open dome
of my heart with no one to tell.

All our thoughts contain the idea of death, after a certain time we think of it in a direct or indirect. The city streets are full of it, shattered buildings, crying, despair, fear, abandoned houses, bars full, desolation. Your room that made a mess, the night before one could say that was a palace, but in the morning, wake up and do not know where to start the roof or the floor where it ends, the fun was guaranteed all night, ended up empty bottles of whiskey, the star increased its brightness, while we were losing in a galaxy of joy. We use a camera to see through the window of your room, people seemed to aquatic insects, gray ghosts walking without direction, the camera made us satisfy our desire for omniscience, God's eye.
